In 2007, Cedar Girls’ Secondary School (CGSS) devised strategies to leverage on online environments to engage pupils and facilitate collaborative learning among them.

This led CGSS to search for a solution that does not require heavy financial investment and resources to maintain and at the same time, provides a user-friendly interface. CommonTown’s suite of edu-solutions, including CommonAcademy, e-Portfolio and Swiiit suited their needs. Therefore, in January 2008, the 3 systems were deployed and CGSS made its way into eLearning and managing IT processes.

Today, parents and the public are kept informed about school events and programs happening in the school via a regularly updated school website, developed using CommonTown’s web management system – Swiiit.

With the implementation of CommonAcademy, teachers are provided with effective tools like Assignment and Submission modules that help to reduce the manual tasks of collecting homework submissions. Survey and Polling tools provides meaningful and effective communications between teachers and students. Other features such as Question Banks and Repository facilitate interaction among teachers in sharing knowledge.

ePortfolio provides every student with an online portfolio to record personal interests and development, as well as showcase their artifacts. More importantly, it equips teachers with the ability to track, monitor and guide the personal development progress of each student.

With the utilization of these technologies, CGSS has seen considerable improvement in the school operations as well as created better channel of communication amongst the teachers, students and parents.
